Today's Viana beads (hollow, and even lighter in the old days) are direct descendants of Greek, Phoenician, Roman and Etruscan beads, the Etruscan ones being closest to those we know now. The granulation, or "dusting," and the surrounding filigree were mere ornament; what always mattered most was the round, spherical shape. A woman from Viana would buy her bead necklace before the much-longed-for cordão (rope chain). It was often bought one bead at a time with a young woman's modest savings, usually earned from selling eggs or chickens.

This piece is made in 925 sterling silver, 9K gold and 19K gold. All our pieces are hallmarked by the Porto Assay Office, which guarantees the quality of the materials used.
